WHAT CAN THE PARENTS' COUNCIL
DO?
The Parents' Council has two
scheduled Saturday morning meetings: the Saturday of Family
Weekend and once more during the Spring semester. Committees meet as needed.
The Council has been involved
in a number of projects over the years:
- Freshman Orientation and
Welcome Back Raffle: Parents staff an information table
during the first day of orientation. Members inform freshman
parents of the council and encourage them to join and hold
a raffle for lots of "college necessities." It
is a nice welcome for new families.
- Parents' Council Awards:
The council presents awards for the "Teacher of the
Year," "Administrator of the Year," and a
"Special Friend Award." The recipients are selected
by student committees and the awards are presented at either
Honors Day or the fall commencement.
- Apple Blossom Fund Raiser:
To raise money for a Parents' Scholarship Fund, council
members staff a booth to sell snacks and/or park cars during
the festival. A good time for everyone!
- Dessert Extravaganza:
Designed to bring to the students a little of that "down
home feeling." Parents, grandparents and friends bring or
send homemade goodies to be served at lunch in the dining
hall during the spring semester.
