Men Shut Out by Royals  09/03/08

WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Eastern Mennonite University broke open a scoreless game with a pair of goals midway through the second half Wednesday night and coasted home to a 2-0 non-league men's soccer win over Shenandoah.

EMU (3-0) scored the initial goal of the contest on a penalty kick in the 55th minute before adding an insurance tally just over five minutes later.

Jackets Sting Women  09/03/08

WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Randolph-Macon College tallied the only goal of the game midway through the second half to secure a 1-0 non-league women's soccer victory over Shenandoah Wednesday afternoon.

Macon (2-0) got a Megan Calabrese goal in the 73rd minute and made the result hold up against the Hornets (1-2).

University Announces New Stadium Name  09/03/08

WINCHESTER, Va.– Shenandoah University announced today the extension of the university’s existing naming rights for its football stadium with Shenandoah Telecommunication Company (Shentel).

Effective immediately, the stadium and field will now be known as “Sprint Field at Shentel Stadium.” This new agreement amends and extends the original 10-year deal, and the name will remain in place in perpetuity.

Botkin Earns USA South Honor  09/01/08

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Shenandoah University freshman women’s soccer player Katie Botkin has been named USA South Conference Rookie of the Week in selections announced Monday afternoon by the conference office.

Botkin, a midfielder/forward, scored a pair of goals in the Hornets 6-0 win over Chatham University Sunday afternoon in the consolation game of the Alvernia College Cup.

Botkin and the rest of her squad open up home play Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 in a non-league game against Randolph-Macon College. This contest will also be the first at SU since converting the Shentel Stadium surface to an artificial turf in-fill system.

Barr to Provide Football Color Commentary  09/01/08

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Shenandoah University Television announced Monday that it has formed a broadcast team for the school’s football television broadcasts.

Starting with the October 4 game against Christopher Newport, Sebastian Salazar will provide play-by-play and Walter Barr color commentary for the Hornets home football contests. For the season and home opener on September 6, SUTV Director Rick Ours will sit in for Barr, who has a previous commitment scheduled for that time.

Volleyball Opens with Sweep  08/30/08

FREDERICK, Md. - Shenandoah University opened up its 2008 volleyball season Saturday morning with a non-league tri-match sweep over Notre Dame (Md.) and Hood.

The Hornets (2-0) downed CND 25-17, 25-18, 25-18 in the opener before taking out the Blazers 12-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-22 in the final match of the day.

Harriers Post Strong Start  08/30/08

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. - The Shenandoah University men's and women's cross country teams had a solid start to their 2008 seasons Saturday afternoon at the Delaware Valley Invitational.

Freshmen Kyle Gutierrez and Josiah Renton led the men to a fourth place finish overall with eighth and 12th place showings, respectively.
