Shenandoah Conservatory muscic, theatre, dance
The focus of the Jazz Studies program at Shenandoah Conservatory is the preparation of musicians as performers and arrangers in the broad field of contemporary music, which includes jazz, popular, commercial, and classical and studio music. Students are also trained in areas of technology, as well as in jazz teaching techniques, in preparation for a career of evolving opportunities. The philosophy of the SU jazz studies program is grounded in the belief that 21st century artists will work in a variety of settings, where performing, composing, studio work and teaching are important components of a successful musician's overall career.
Shenandoah's jazz studies program has been recognized through invitations extended to the Jazz Ensemble to perform at festivals and colleges in Europe, Japan, China, Africa and the eastern United States as well as at annual conferences of professional musical organizations.
Successful graduates of Shenandoah University's jazz program include drummer Billy Drummond, arranger Alan Baylock, pianist Timothy Young, drummer Alphonso Young and pianist Laurence Elder.
