Mathematical Sciences

Mathematics is one of the great unifying themes in modern culture. It is a language, a science, an art form, and a tool of tremendous power. The mathematics program at Shenandoah is designed to offer the students a fundamental background in mathematics within a strong liberal arts environment.

A student who majors in mathematics may prepare for a position in business, government, industry or teaching where there is growing demand at all levels. Recent graduates find they are well prepared for graduate school and have consistently obtained scores in the upper ten percent of all participants on the quantitative portion of the Graduate Record Examination.

Shenandoah offers the Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics. It can be combined easily with a number of diverse minors (English, biology, business, history, religion, physical education, dance, theatre, etc.) to meet individual career plans and personal intellectual goals. A minor in mathematics is an excellent complement to virtually any other major. This flexibility means that at Shenandoah, a mathematics program can be as career-oriented as individually desired.
