We’re golden!

The phrase conjures up the hopes and dreams of a community and the individuals involved over the past 50 years in the dream to relocate the Shenandoah College and Conservatory of Music to Winchester from Dayton, Va., in the fall of 1960.

Shenandoah University today is the private, nationally recognized applied liberal arts institution that still dreams big, inviting students to join a close-knit community rich in creative energy.

With more than 3,500 students, 90 programs of study and offering bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in six schools, Shenandoah University is a dynamic academic community that reaches out to the region, the nation, and the world. Documentary movie commemorates SU's move from Dayton, Va. to Winchester 50 years ago.


Shenandoah University is planning a year-long commemoration of the golden anniversary of the Dayton legacy and the relocation to Winchester.

This fall, Homecoming 2010, set for October 15 –17, will be themed around the 50th anniversary with programming dedicated to celebrating the university’s history in the Shenandoah Valley region as well as its present and future success. The university unveils a special logo for the 50th anniversary in Winchester during the Dayton Luncheon on Saturday, April 24.
