Shenandoah University History Professor Warren Hofstra Releases New Book on ‘The Great Valley Road of Virginia.’

The new book explores the relationship between Route 11 and the people of the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia

"Roads are the arteries of communities, carrying goods and people as well as ideas and all the material rudiments of culture. This is certainly true for Route 11 and the Shenandoah Valley.  This book explores the relationship between the peoples of the Valley, their cultures, and one of America’s earliest and most important roads during three centuries of trade, travel and tradition," said Hofstra, a Shenandoah University history professor of the new book, "The Great Valley Road of Virginia: Shenandoah Landscapes from Prehistory to the Present.," he co-edited with Karl Raitz.

Hofstra added that four other members of the Shenandoah University faculty collaborated with him on this project, including Gerri Kiefer, Tracy Fitzsimmons, Ann Denkler and Jim Bryant.

A book launch event was held April 28. in Davis Hall on the main campus of Shenandoah University.
