On Sunday, Aug. 29, University Chapel at Noon will commence at Shenandoah University. This dynamic new worship community will meet each week at 12 p.m. in Goodson Chapel. The service is interdenominational and a place where all are welcome.
University Chapel at Noon was created by the Office of Spiritual Life in response to several requests from the Shenandoah campus community for such a program. According to Bishop-in-Residence Ray Chamberlain, an increasing number of Shenandoah students, faculty and staff are engaging in local, national and global service and mission projects, and many of these individuals are looking for a worship community within to celebrate these experiences. Many others around campus asked for a way to extend a welcome and fellowship with their neighbors in the larger community.
The service will be a creative mix of ancient and emerging traditions, full of artful and expressive forms of worship.
“University Chapel at Noon will not be boring,” said the Rev. Dr. Rhonda Van Dyke Colby, dean of spiritual life at Shenandoah University. “It will be holistic in nature where learning through reflection and critical thinking encourages transformation and insight for one’s spiritual journey.”
Following the service, all are invited to continue to foster community by eating brunch together in the Allen Dining Hall. Students can use their meal plans and all others can present a chapel bulletin and pay $5.
