SU Associate Professor H. Jurgen Combs Appointed to the Commission for Community Colleges & Teacher Education

Associate Professor of Education Leadership H. Jurgen Combs has been appointed to the Commission for Community Colleges and Teacher Education by the Association of Teacher Educators (ATE); He will serve on this commission until 2012.

<P>Associate Professor of Education Leadership H. Jurgen Combs has been appointed to the Commission for Community Colleges and Teacher Education by the Association of Teacher Educators (ATE); He will serve on this commission until 2012. The commission will make recommendations to the ATE on the involvement of Community Colleges in the teacher education process.&nbsp;Combs serves on the faculty of Shenandoah University's School of Education &amp; Human Development.</P> <P>He also published two articles in educational journals. His article, "Bridges to Success: School District-University Partnership Clinical Faculty Training," was published in the winter 2009 issue of the Southeastern Teacher Education Journal (SETE). "Bridges to Success" is a partnership program between Shenandoah University and several surrounding school divisions (in Clarke, Frederick, Winchester, Warren, and Rappahannock counties). </P> <P>The program secured two grants over the last two years to provide clinical faculty training to help these school divisions to work with Shenandoah University student teachers as well as teachers new to the divisions, in order to reduce the number of teachers that leave the profession within the first five years of teaching. The Southeastern Teacher Education Journal is a nationally refereed journal designed for educators in K-12, community college and university settings. The goal of the Southeastern Teacher Education Journal is to share educational research or innovative techniques from many different educational disciplines within the Southeastern United States, other U.S. States and the rest of the world.</P> <P>Combs' second article, "Effective Teacher Induction: Stemming the Tide of Exiting Educators," was published in the October 28, 2008, National Elementary School Principals (NAESP)'s Middle Matters online journal. As different grade levels face many different issues, Middle Matters addresses the special needs of NAESP administrators serving the middle-level, grades 5-8.</P> <P>Combs will also participate on a panel at the Loudoun County Public School's division-wide Future Educators Association conference at the National Conference Center in Lansdowne, Va., on March 17. The panel will discuss the topic of "College Foundations for Education Majors." </P> Share
