Purpose
The purpose of the Academic Policies Committee is to make recommendations to the Senate concerning matters of academic standards.
Charge
The primary focus of this committee is on the academic regulations and policies that influence the level of academic achievement required for the completion of education programs in keeping with the educational aims of the university. The specific duties of the committee are:
- to review and make recommendations to the Senate about policies concerning student academic standards, admissions, recruiting and retention, probation, dismissal and re-admission
- to develop and implement guidelines for student academic appeals and decision-making in borderline cases regarding admissions, probation, dismissal or re-admission
- to formulate and monitor policies and plans for all phases of registration and pre-registration of students
- to formulate and monitor a sound system of student advising
- to review and make recommendations regarding a sound system of academic record-keeping
- to specify and evaluate the elements of the first-year student testing programs organized and supervised by the registrar
- to review and make recommendations regarding transfer articulation and assessment including, but not limited to, transcript evaluation, credit by examination and credit for life experiences
- to review and monitor policies for graduation, granting of degrees and recognition of student achievement
- to submit monthly minutes and recommendations to be voted on by the Senate
- to submit a final annual report and recommendations to be voted on by the Senate
