Library User Categories

SU Students, Faculty and Staff: Current students, faculty and staff have access to the library collections, may use library computers and have full Internet access, including on- and off-campus use of library databases and electronic journals.

Alumni Users: SU alumni may have access to the library collections, may use library computers on the main floor of Smith Library, and have on-campus use of library databases. Off-campus access cannot be provided due to licensing restrictions.

Community Users: Borrowing privileges are available to the local community for a $10 annual fee. Community users must live in the City of Winchester or Frederick County, or in a county contingent with Frederick County, Va. There are some restrictions on community users for certain types of materials.

Friends of the Library: Community users wishing expanded borrowing privileges may purchase a membership in the Friends of the Library. A $40 annual fee permits individuals to borrow books and scores. One-Time Users: Individuals who are traveling through the Winchester area AND do not reside within 50 miles of shenandoah may use designated computers to access Web-based e-mail at no charge, except for printing. One-time users must complete a registration form with name address and phone number. Computer usage is limited to 30 minutes, and access priority is always given to SU students and faculty.

Visiting College Students: Individuals who live in the Winchester area but are students at other colleges will be permitted occasional access to SU computers and database as a courtesy. However, SU students always have priority access to computers. Students must show a valid college or university ID card from their college or university. Visiting students must pay for all printing costs.
