Winchester Medical Center held its 2010 Nurses Week Celebration throughout the second week of May, and on Friday, May 14, City of Winchester Mayor Elizabeth Minor held a press conference at noon at the Winchester Medical Center Conference Room to mark the occasion. Coincidentally, May 12, was National Faith Community Nurse Day, so Mayor Minor recognized the faith community nurses in Winchester/Frederick County area during the press conference.

Shenandoah University, as the educational partner for faith community nursing, participated, too. Faith Community Nurse Coordinator Vickie Morley represented Shenandoah, and Lisa Zerull, the program manager and academic liaison, represented Winchester Medical Center/Valley Health. They accepted a proclamation from Mayor Minor on behalf of their partnering institutions and the Northwestern Virginia Regional Parish/Faith Community Nurse Network.

This is indeed a special recognition for Shenandoah University, which has a 15-year history of educating registered nurses for faith community nursing.
